The sprawling hilltop village of Xaghra (pronounced Shara) is perched on a high limestone plateau, surrounded by the myriad caves and pre-historic sites for which it is famous. An ornate baroque church forms the focal point of the village with the laid-back tranquillity of the church square very much reflecting the old-fashioned, relaxed character of this charming, friendly village. Opportunities for sightseeing here are definitely more plentiful than those for shopping with a whole host of historic sites to tempt the enthusiastic historian. The village is home to two spectacular underground alabaster caves, there are ruins on the Xaghra plateau which date back more than five thousand years and the area is also home to one of the world's oldest manmade temples. The beautiful beach at Ramla Bay is only a few kilometres from Xaghra, its fine golden sand lying around a picturesque bay below the famous mountain Calypso cave. Victoria is only a ten minute drive away for those seeking a greater variety of shops and places to eat. Distance from harbour approximately 7 kilometres.
