Villas and Apartments in Victoria, Gozo
Victoria is the capital of Gozo and its most populated town, renamed at the end of the nineteenth century to commemorate Queen Victoria's Jubilee, but still called by its original name, Rabat, by most locals. The town is dominated by the splendid late-medieval citadel which once guarded Rabat and is encircled by splendid bastion walls enjoying truly spectacular views all over the island by day and a romantic, secluded atmosphere by night. Pjazza Indipendenza, the town's main square, is the unofficial meeting place for locals and visitors alike and it is here that a small market is held every morning. In the older part of Victoria, apparently unchanged by the passage of time, the narrow streets are lined with buildings of great architectural beauty in whose doorways the local ladies can often be seen making intricate lace. The town's location in the centre of this tiny island means that it's within easy reach of Gozo's beaches, the nearest being a few kilometres to the west at Xlendi Bay where the clear blue Mediterranean laps onto soft golden sand.
