Villas and Apartments in Qala, Gozo

Qala in Gozo

The furthest village from Victoria, Qala's name (pronounced Arla) means 'sheltered harbour' and its location on the easternmost coast of the island means that it is also the closest village to the rest of the Maltese archipelago and as such enjoys breathtaking views from its craggy shoreline across the sea to the neighbouring islands of Comino and Cominetto. Indeed, it is said that the village's parish church of St. Mary of the Rocks was deliberately built facing Comino so that the islanders could celebrate mass from across the straits when rough weather prevented a priest from crossing the sea. Qala offers wonderful views from around the village and one can also see Sicily on a clear day.The island's compact size means that it's never too far to drive to find somewhere to eat or enjoy a drink in convivial surroundings and the beach around the sheltered inlet at Hondoq ir-Rummien is only a few kilometres away. Just down the coast is the harbour at Mgarr (Um-jar) into which the ferries come from Malta. Distance from harbour approximately 4 kilometres.
