Villas and Apartments in Gharb and Ghammar, Gozo
On the west side of the island, Gharb (pronounced arb) is one of Gozo's prettiest and most peaceful villages, boasting one of the most architecturally perfect churches on the island and some particularly fine old houses with intricately-carved stone balconies. Despite having a population of only a thousand, this small and fairly remote village is a place of strong religious significance, its centre dominated by the impressive concave façade of the baroque church of the Immaculate Conception and its history steeped in stories of local visions and miracles. Just outside Gharb in Ghammar (pronounced ammar), the basilica of Ta' Pinu is a national shrine to which pilgrims come from all over Europe. The countryside around Gharb and Ghammar is dramatically beautiful with green fields scattered with rocky outcrops and colourful wild flowers and glimpses of the clear blue ocean at every turn. The nearest coastal resort is at Dwejra Bay, home to the natural wonders of 'Fungus Rock' and 'The Azure Window', as well as some of the best scuba diving in the Mediterranean.
