Set amidst beautiful countryside, Casa Do Botelho dates back to 1869 and still has lots of rustic charm. It's in a very tranquil spot, yet less than a kilometre from the nearest village (Corotelo) with its mini-market and bar. A little further afield, the market town of Sao Bras six kilometres away provides a wider range of shops.
The sun-filled, semi-detached villa was lovingly restored in 2006/2007 and now combines traditional flavours with modern amenities. Furnishings in the living area include a dining table that seats six, while the country kitchen still has a sloping, wood-beamed ceiling and there are also a number of antiques to complement the exposed stone walls. There are also two bedrooms and a bathroom, and outside a delightful sun terrace, garden and pool, are all enclosed by a fence. One of the real highlights is the splended view across to the mountains to the north from the dining area.
• Open-plan living/dining area with TV, DVD & CD playerJust a few kilometres inland, the Algarve transforms into a backdrop of low hills and tranquil beauty where time ticks by oblivious to the hurly-burly of the outside world and the balmy air is filled with the scent of pine and eucalyptus. Glorious views towards the ocean take in tiny villages and rural farming communities where life trundles on undisturbed from the rugged Atlantic coast in the west, to the River Guadiana in the east.
Highlights of the Algarve
Much of the charm of the Algarve lies in its endearing blend of quaint simplicity and warm sophistication. The natural hospitality of the Algarveans is a legacy of the five hundred year Moorish occupation of the region, complemented by a pleasing and relaxing lack of urgency in day to day life. This a land of paradox, where one moment you'll see a wizened, sun-wrinkled elder leading a donkey and cart to the market as his ancestors have done for generations and the next you'll meet some of the world's top sportsmen testing their skills on an award-winning golf course. And whilst the Algarve has many splendid water parks providing endless fun for children, those same youngsters can enjoy many a sun-filled hour simply exploring rock pools on the beach
